It's July 5th, 2024, and we now know the nation has elected a Labour Government. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer for his remarkable achievement, particularly for securing a landslide victory yesterday. This marks a significant new chapter, and we eagerly anticipate working strategically with the new government to enhance opportunities for young people.
A concerning number of individuals have felt disillusioned and disconnected from the political landscape over recent years. Prior to the election, 40% of Gen Z and Millennials expressed voter apathy, indicating they didn't plan to vote. Labour's manifesto, however, promises strong commitments to young people, notably the Youth Guarantee, which ensures access to training, apprenticeships, or support to find work for all 18-21 year olds.
"A change of government is one piece of the jigsaw. It is crucially important that individuals, employers, and training providers collaborate to actualise this ambitious transformation project. At RISE UP, we aim to empower marginalised individuals while championing disruptive talent. I truly believe that together we can address the shocking numbers of young people who are unemployed and economically inactive." says Roman Dibden, Charity Director at RISE UP.
We remain dedicated to achieving sustained outcomes for the young people we support. We provide one-to-one mentoring to prepare young people for employment and continue to support them and their line managers for up to six months post-placement.
Alarmingly, nine in ten young people between the ages of 15 and 24 now see having enough money to cover basic needs as an aspiration in life due to the challenges posed by the cost-of-living crisis. This situation is untenable, which is why we established ‘The Opportunity Fund’ to eliminate barriers created by this crisis.
Properly tackling youth unemployment could generate £69 billion in GDP. If you’d like to support our work, whether through a one-off donation or by volunteering your time, please get in touch. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of young people.
